The belt sanding powerhouse of recent years has been without a doubt Lagler Hummel. The Lagler Hummel is the classic green color floor sander you see everywhere. The Hummel comes in 8″ and 12″ sizes, 8″ being the most common of sizes you will see. The reason the 8″ is the most common is because it is cheaper to get paper for. The Hummel is used for refinsihign and new installations of hardwood floors. It can effectively take off old finish or raw cut wood to a flat surface.
Review of the Hummel by Floor Sander Supply
As stated above the Lagler Hummel has been a staple in the floor sanding scene for some time now. We have had the opportunity to use it on over 200 jobs in the last year or so. We will be able to give you a non biased opinion, guaranteed.
Design: The design of the Lagler Hummel is one of a 1970’s muscle car. It is rugged, simple to fix and reliable. The design is a typical belt sander and there is only a few real parts to it. The motor, belt, drum & tension rod. The only intricate part if you are like me and do not know electrical is the electrical housing which has a dozen or so wires. Event hat was simple to diagnose when we had an issue and it was fixed.
Design is simple and good ans is a 10/10.
Reliability: Reliability in floor sanding is one of utmost importance. You are unable to have a day of downtime and if you do, it is catastrophic. The Hummel excels in this aspect, we had only a few hours, yes hours of downtime. Our downtime consisted of finding out which wire was unplugged and how to re-attache it correctly. Since the machine is simple and made of strong metals you will have no issues with this tank.
The reliability is easily a 9.5/10.
Performance: The performance of the Lagler Hummel is simply put as awesome. Job in and job out the machine performs exactly as it should with only a few nobs to tweak much you will never be wondering why the machine is not working. The cut from the machine is as good as you can have. It cuts nice and evenly with great power on the drum. It never felt like I needed more power from this machine and as always given me what was needed.
The performance of the Hummel is 10/10.
