Overview of the Lagler FLIP Edger

We all know Lagler has a name of quality in the hardwood industry. One of the newest additions to the Lagler lineup is the FLIP edger for both wall edges, corners and toekicks. The Lagler is like any traditional edger in the sense it gets super close to the wall. However, the lagler FLIP edger has a different design then a traditional edger. The design has a “foot” that allows the operator to get the edger under obstacles in the way such as radiators, deep to-kicks and some appliances. The foot is a very effective way to get finish off the floor  in a timely manner and creates DUST FREE environment.

How the Lagler Flip Performs in the Field

Lagler usually doesn’t disappoint when it creates something. The lagler FLIP edger is the same, however there are some caveats that you might want to know prior to buying it. The main use of the flip in my business sis for toe-kicks and that is mostly all we use it for. The FLIP is the best toe-kick edger in the business. If you are diligent on re-setting it every job your toe-kicks will be some of the flattest possible in the industry. Due to the 6″ paper size and the way it cuts my employees and I find it very inefficient vs other edgers in the open field. The handle design makes my hands feel instantly tired and cramped vs the Elite Edger 3 and the American Sanders Super 7R.

Using for Toe-Kicks

Nothing gets the finish off and flat like this machine – It truly is a beast in this department. I have tried other toe-kick edgers and all produced an ungodly amount of dust. The little knob on the end of the edger allows you to sand right up to the toe-kick veneer without ruining it. The knob is easy to use and is 100% effective if you set it up right. Setting up the knob is very easy, just set the edger against the toe-kick and then tighten the knob down 2-3mm back from to ensure no sand paper huts your toe-kicks. Another thing to make sure of is to adjust the Lagler FLIP prior to using. I find the wheels move in storage and will tilt the edger to one side and make it unbalanced. This will produce a super wavy floor.

Using for the Open Field

The open field in my opinion is a different story. I find the FLIP edger to be slower, create more scratches and my hands make me want to kill the edger. This machine handles are in a very different position compared to other edgers and it just plainly hurts using it for more than toe-kicks. The machine seems to be slower in use than a traditional edger in the field. The RPM is higher, but the sand paper seems to dull instantly. While it can be used as a standard edger, I find the makeup of the body too hard to hold and uncomfortable, also it uses too many papers.

Reliability & Customer Service of the Lagler FLIP Edger

I bought my flip brand new and after 5 hours of use the motor burnt out. I called Lagler and they gave me a shipping label and warrantied the work without question. The edger came back looking brand new again. Since that first hiccup I have used the edger for over 200 hours without an issue. Greg over at Palo Duro / Lagler is great and easy to talk to. He initiated the warranty work on the same phone calla s diagnosing the issue. I did have a past model’s handle break since they are a hard plastic, however that was from dropping it and I can not blame that on it being plastic. Between my 3 FLIP edgers I have only had one ever break down and they seem to continue to work without needing much maintenance at all. I would highly recommend Lagler due to their wonderful customer service.

Overall

All in All I would suggest the Lagler FLIP for mainly the toe-kick sanding. The open field sanding is hard on the hands and is considerably slower.
